The boat is already leaving, and what it leaves is more beautiful than what it carried. A widening line of white that the sea will close in minutes. Every departure writes something on the water, briefly, and then does not.

This series is printed on canvas, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a default. The work was conceived as painting — built in thick passages and thin scraped washes — and a woven surface holds that the way a flat sheet cannot. Light catches the weave unevenly, the way it does on a real canvas, so the piece stops reading as a reproduction and starts reading as an object.
