A trunk this shape took four hundred years and no plan at all. It grew around what it could not move through, healed over what was cut, and kept going. Nothing about it is decorative — every twist is the record of a decision the tree had to make.

This series is printed on canvas, and that is a deliberate choice rather than a default. The work was conceived as painting — built in thick passages and thin scraped washes — and a woven surface holds that the way a flat sheet cannot. Light catches the weave unevenly, the way it does on a real canvas, so the piece stops reading as a reproduction and starts reading as an object.
